Many parts of
the world utilize goat milk and meat because of the goat's
small size and foraging ability. They can survive in areas where larger
livestock cannot.
There are six recognized breeds of dairy goats in the United States. The
Nubian breed originated in southern and eastern Mediterranean countries
and is recognized as the "jersey" of dairy goats because of its typically
high butterfat content in the milk. We prefer Nubians for creamier milk
and for our cheese making. Four of the six breeds are of European origin,
including the Saanen and Alpine. Both are noted for their heavy milk production.
Our farm is graced with all three.

Goats on the browse
Just
to dispel a few myths - goats don't stink. Although the bucks (the
boys) produce a heavy musky and objectionable scent during breeding
season, the does (girls) have no odor. The bucks and the does are
kept apart except when breeding.
Goats do not eat tin cans. but being curious as they are may nibble
a shoelace, clothing or a lock of hair to investigate or to show
affection. They browse trees and brush selectively (like deer) and
graze native pasture. They also receive good quality alfalfa and
a proprietary blend of grain and minerals including sea kelp and
organic humates. They are really very picky eaters and that assures
consistently sweet and delicious milk
